The History of the Easel

Conclusion

Though it has caused its share of problems, the easel has provided its share of solutions as well, in uses ranging from a boardroom flip chart to restaurant furniture. Remaining distinct from the podium, blackboard, chalkboard, floor mirror, or various kinds of book stands, the easel has created an unmistakable niche for itself in the world of art supplies, presentation materials, and wrought iron and willow furniture. Because of their simple and intuitive nature, and because of their ubiquity in contemporary society from the child's watercolor easel to the corporate presenter's brass easel, easels have become somewhat like the wheel. Both the simplest of machines, they are indispensable, and if all traces disappeared today, imaginative minds surely would begin reinventing them tomorrow.
